Installation
Installing WebSuite is a relatively straightforward process that should take less than a few minutes. If you do not already have a copy of the software, you can download it from:
http://www.westcoastwebadventures.com/products/dnWebSuite.htm
WebSuite utilizes the latest version of the SmartDesk Virtual Machine, which is included at no charge with the product. The current version of WebSuite, v2.2, is dated 7-29-2001 and is 937,680 bytes in size. Please verify this information prior to beginning the installation process.
To install, double click on the websuite.exe file that you downloaded or enter its name and location in the Windows RUN command. This will load the Virtual Machine installer and install or update the latest VM on your machine. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the VM installation.
If you are already running the SmartDesk VM on your machine you will be prompted to either uninstall it or temporarily disable it. To remove the VM, follow the instructions included with the VM documentation. To temporarily disable it, enter the following command at the Windows RUN prompt: sdload /remove
Following successful installation of the VM, the WebSuite installer will be automatically displayed. Follow the onscreen instruction to complete the installation. Additionally, you will need to provide the following information:
Installation Directory
The installation directory specifies the location where WebSuite is to be installed. WebSuite requires a specific directory structure in order to operate properly, typically C:\SDWEB. Enter the drive location where you want WebSuite to be installed. Click the "…" button to display a list of all available drives.
Server Name
The server name is used to uniquely identify this server from any others. Enter a descriptive name that sufficiently describes this installation.
Web Port
The web port specifies the TCP/IP port that the server will use. Most browsers utilize port 80 for accessing the web. This is the default installation port and recommended unless WebSuite is providing a private communications system or is being used in conjunction with another web server on the same machine. If you specify anything other than port 80, you will need to access your server using the following convention: http://your_ip_address:port
Login Name
The login name is used as the master user-id for accessing secure content on your server. It is highly recommended that you change this during the installation to a name that uniquely identifies you.
Password
The password is used in conjunction with the Login Name to uniquely identify you to the server and provide you with master access to all secure areas of the server and any of the web pages that it hosts. It is highly recommended that you change this during the installation to a password that is unique to you.
Following the installation, the SmartDesk program group will be created with links to the server and the latest updated information.
